Imagine how much easier travel would be if you didn't have to lug your own cases around. Well with easyJet's new luggage service, this is a reality!

Customers can now choose to check in their luggage from home, skip bag drop on departure and breeze past baggage collection on arrival.

The new luggage service was launched in November after research showed 40% of easyJet customers would be interested in luggage collection and delivery.

The  easyJet and Airportr services are available for flights to any of easyJet’s destinations across Europe from the airline’s biggest UK base London Gatwick, and from Switzerland’s largest airport, Geneva, from just £38. The first 300 customers will receive 30% off their booking by using the code 30OFFAIRPORTRLAUNCH. This offer was still valid on 18 December 2023.

Prices start at £38, but I was lucky enough to get a voucher to trial the Airportr luggage transfer service when I flew from London Gatwick to Geneva this month.

All I had to do was book a slot on Airportr's website in advance and then hand my packed hold bag over to an agent at home on the day of departure.

The agent arrived bang on time at the start of the collection slot on the day of departure. He was very courteous and professional, checking in the bag at my door, and took a picture of the bag both on my doorstep and at check-in - which was sent back to me pre-flight to confirm it had been checked in at Gatwick. I then travelled with just my cabin bag to Gatwick on local public transport and the Gatwick Express. Then on arrival at Geneva Airport I simply collected my hold bag from the carousel at baggage reclaim the same as if I'd checked it in myself.

It was great to avoid the airport bag drop queues and head straight to security enjoying a hands-free journey.

Airportr can also deliver direct to your destination address (e.g. hotel) in Geneva but in my case (!) I was staying at an airport hotel (the Movenpick) courtesy of International Air Transport Association so decided to collect from the baggage belt on arrival instead. And also because my flight arrivedvery late at night and Airportr would only be able to deliver to my hotel the following day.

On my way to baggage claim - twinkly arrival at night into Geneva Airport

The delivery service is not yet available from Gatwick to an address in the UK, but the Airportr team plan to roll that out in the near future.

easyJet is confident this new service will prove popular to customers. Since starting up, 8,100 customers have given Airportr a 4 or 5-star rating, and 9.6/10 customers are likely to recommend the service to others.

My tips: When booking the service, be sure to book early as slots are available on a first come first served basis. For example, when I tried to book my ideal time slot on day of departure it was not available as all the slots at that time had been taken. However the team went the extra mile to accommodate my ideal timeslot.

A successful trip to Geneva thanks to hands free and stress free travel with easyJet & Airportr

On the inbound journey I also left it too late to book a timeslot. Airportr however explained that in Swizterland there is a cutoff period for booking due to regulations with their courier partner Swissport.

So my advice is, book early!

But if you do have any queries or issues, you can easily contact the Airportr team using the chat button on their website. They don't have an app as yet so currently the ways to contact the firm are via the chat button with follow on either by WhatsApp or email, according to your preference.

I found Airportr to be very responsive and accommodating to all my queries about the service.

The airline will initially offer three services for customers at London Gatwick and Geneva airports:

  1. Departure: customers flying from London Gatwick or Geneva can now check in their bags from a designated pick-up point like your home office or hotel, which will be collected by an accredited driver and then collected from the baggage belt on arrival at their destination.

  2. Arrival: Customers arriving into Geneva from any easyJet airport can book for a delivery of their bags to their final destination, like their home or hotel.

  3. Door-to-door: customers flying from London Gatwick to Geneva can book a door-to-door service – a totally seamless luggage experience that means customers can check in their bags from home and sees them delivered to their final destination.

easyJet also becomes the first airline to include the service in a bundle fare, meaning FLEXI fare customers flying from London Gatwick and Geneva have the service included in their booking.

Sophie Dekkers, Chief Commercial Officer at easyJet says:

“We are always looking at how we can innovate with the products and services we offer to ensure we are providing more of the choices our customers want, so we are excited to be introducing Airportr’s services initially from London Gatwick and Geneva, to help make travel even easier for our customers, whether they are flying for business or leisure.”

Randel Darby, CEO of Airportr, said:

"Travelers continue to prioritize speed and convenience and are increasingly turning to off-airport processes to achieve it. As an airline, easyJet is committed to getting their customers through the airport faster, whilst delivering the best experience when travelling with baggage. We’re delighted that Airportr can support easyJet on this mission, with bag-free travel now possible to, through and from airports.

Since 2016, Airportr have collected over 250,000 bags and sports equipment which have been checked-in and delivered to hundreds of destination airport baggage reclaims around the world.

The new baggage collection and delivery service further builds on easyJet’s recent customer initiatives to make it easier for customers when flying with the airlines including the introduction of Twilight Bag Drop, available at London Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berlin and Amsterdam which means customers on early flights can drop their bags off the night before.

Airportr is also partnering with other airlines flying from Heathrow as well as Gatwick with more partners joining soon.
