Passengers on French longhaul airline XL Airways will be able to use their wireless devices to enjoy free entertainment onboard, thanks to a new solution from Spanish company Immfly.

The free entertainment will be available on routes to North America, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean starting in October. Three A330s are to be equipped with the new system, developed by Kontron and Immfly.

Entertainment to personal devices includes newsfeeds, magazines, documentaries, childrens’ tv, music and sports videos. Journey, maps and destination information including areas the aircraft is flying over, will be streamed to PEDS. French and English destination guides will be available for download. News content is uploaded daily.

There will also be a premium offering, available for a fee, likely to be between €5 and €9.9, depending on the route.

XL will also be able to offer passengers onboard purchases and transactions via the system.

Volotea will also be offering free entertainment from Immfly starting next month in a four month trial on four A319s. Volotea is a Spanish low cost carrier with 19 B717 and four A319 aircraft.

Passengers on Iberia Express can also enjoy entertainment on their devices, supplied by Immfly. A new branded platform for Iberia Express labelled Club Express Onboard is to be launched 28th June and other partnerships in Europe and LATAM will be announced in the near future.

Immfly is aiming for 100 million connected passengers by 2018.
